Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery

Boston Medical Center's Department of Cardiac Surgery offers a wide range of minimally invasive treatment options. Although heart surgery often requires the chest to be opened with a large incision called a sternotomy, our surgeons can perform most procedures using small incisions. Working between the ribs, the heart is accessed via tiny cameras, wires, and catheters (thin tubes).
